Frequently asked questions

  • A recirculating shower is a shower system that recirculates water in a vertical pattern.  The water leaves the shower head, goes down the drain, through a pump , through a series of filters, through a heater and then back out the shower head.

  • Less than one gallon

  • The Infinity Shower system uses a multistage micron filtration system, a UV Sterilizer, and drains the water between each shower.  Because our system works in tandem with a traditional shower system you also have the ability to rinse off prior to showering or after recirculating the water.  This is similar to showering before or after a bath.

  • The Infinity Shower can be installed in a Van, RV, Boat, or Offgrid cabin.    Our system can be installed to fit in most already built vehicles or residences, although access to some plumbing systems can be very challenging.  (Trust me, we know all about that)   In most situations it makes sense to accommodate the recirculation shower system in your custom home, or custom camper van build from the design phase.  We work with several custom camper van builders who have real life experience installing these systems.  Often under the bathroom/kitchen sink is a great place in an RV.  In a boat you might look under a bench seat or in a bilge compartment.

  • Not only does using more filters mean you can clean the water more effectively but it also means that you clog the filters less frequently.   From our experience this doesn't happen in a linear fashion, it’s actually exponential.   For example changing the filter count from one to 2 doesn't mean you have to change the filter ½ as frequently it’s more like 1/3rd as often.  Going from 1 filter to 3 filters means you only have to clean them 1/6th as often.  These are just examples and rough estimates but the bottom line is our system is designed for minimal maintenance and maximum efficiency.

  • The frequency of filter cleaning greatly depends on the individual situation.  There will be significantly different amounts of debris that needs to be cleaned and separated if you are coming back to your van for a shower after an off road ATV mudding adventure vs coming in from snorkeling on your boat.  Obviously the former will clog the filters faster.  For most adventures, however,  reusable first and second stage micron filters need to be cleaned about every 10th shower.  The good news is both of these micron filters are simple to clean and reuse.  Simply unscrew them and wash them in your sink, and then replace them.

  • You add water to our recirculating shower system by using a standard fresh water shower.  The Infinity Shower is designed to be used in tandem with a normal shower.  Our system is designed so that you can take a normal shower first, to rinse yourself and get clean.  Secondly you turn on the Infinity shower to recirculate the water.  Finally you drain the system.

  • Inside the Infinity Shower box is a thermostatic mixing valve that controls the temperature.   The temperature range is 95 degrees to 122 degrees.  We recommend 113 degrees.

  • The Infinity shower uses 120 watts of power.   10 amps at 12 volts.

  • Our system uses less than 10 amps of power at 12 volts when in use (120 watts).  Therefore you could run our system off of a single 100 amp hour battery for 10 hours.

  • Yes! The Infinity Shower is extremely energy efficient, because it is able to recycle thermal energy.  Our system draws less than 10 amps at 12 volts when in use!  A single 120 watt solar panel could power our system.  (please note our system requires a heat source.  We recommend using a diesel powered hydronic heating system or a tanked water heater)

  • Yes! The Infinity Shower system was originally designed and inspired for use in our founders Monohull Sailboat
